In this study, two potential sulfur oxidizing bacteria (designated LW3 and DW8) were previously isolated from UASB of concentrated rubber latex factory and domestic wastewater, respectively. Different parameters affecting the desulfurization process such as pure culture, mixed cultures, using bamboo biochar as carrier were studied in batch mode. The results showed that sulfide removal efficiency of mixed cultures with bamboo biochar was up to 80%. Meanwhile, pure culture with bamboo biochar of isolate LW3 and DW8 were 75% and 70%, respectively. In this work, to further understand the reaction characteristics of the desulfurization process, the kinetic characteristics of sulfide removal were investigated. All of pure and mixed cultures experiments for desulfurization in liquid-phase correlated with 1st order reaction kinetic. Results confirmed that using mixed sulfur oxidizing bacteria and biochar as packing material constitute was the best strategy to remove sulfide with highest desulfurization rate. |
